Two companies drop McGregor after civil jury ruled he must pay $250K to woman who says he raped her
- AP
Two companies have cut ties with Conor McGregor after a civil court jury in Ireland ruled last week that he must pay nearly 250,000 Euros ($257,000) to a woman who accused the mixed martial arts fighter of raping her. Proximo Spirits, the owner of Irish whiskey brand Proper No. 12, will no longer feature McGregor’s name or image. Video game developer IO Interactive ended its collaboration with McGregor, who had played a character in a game. Nikita Hand said the Dec. 9, 2018, assault after a night of partying left her heavily bruised and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor said she fabricated the allegations after the two had consensual sex.

Minnesota Frost rookie Claire Thompson trades stethoscope for hockey stick to resume playing career
- By JOHN WAWROW - AP Hockey Writer
Minnesota Frost defenseman Claire Thompson is no typical rookie preparing for her first PWHL season. At 26, she's returning to hockey after taking last year off to pursue her medical degree at NYU. Her new teammates have come to call Thompson ‘ChatGPT’ for her sharp analytical mind and ability to concisely break down any problem she might encounter. On the ice, Thompson is a play-making blue-liner willing to take calculated risks to set up scoring chances. Thompson scored 13 points to shatter the single-tournament record in helping Canada win the gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Games.

- By STEVE DOUGLAS - AP Sports Writer

No. 8 Miami tries to clinch its title-game spot at Syracuse as the ACC wraps up the regular season
- By AARON BEARD - AP Sports Writer
No. 8 Miami's trip to Syracuse headlines the final week of the regular-season schedule for the Atlantic Coast Conference. That's because the Hurricanes can clinch a trip to the ACC title game with a win. A loss would send No. 12 Clemson. No. 9 SMU has already secured its spot in the Dec. 7 game. The slate includes instate foes Virginia and Virginia Tech meeting with bowl eligibility on the line. In addition, North Carolina's Mack Brown coaches his last home game with the Tar Heels against rival N.C. State.

Final week shows expanded Southeastern Conference just means more chaos
- By TERESA M. WALKER - AP Sports Writer
One thing is sure as the Southeastern Conference wraps up its first expanded season: Two new teams has just meant more chaos in a league that seemingly had settled in formation behind Georgia and Alabama. The SEC’s “New Era” hasn’t changed too much with No. 6 Georgia already in the league’s championship game though it's a game the Bulldogs might rather have avoided. The SEC's final week is filled with rivalries renewed, none bigger than Texas against Texas A&M for a spot in the SEC title game.

No. 2 Ohio State can earn Big Ten championship game rematch with Oregon by beating Michigan
- By STEVE MEGARGEE - AP Sports Writer
The biggest game on the Big Ten schedule this week is the latest renewal of the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry. Both teams had national championship aspirations the last three times they faced off. That's not the case this year with Michigan taking a step backward after its 2023 national championship season. There's still plenty at stake for No. 2 Ohio State. A victory over Michigan would send Ohio State to the Big Ten championship game and give the Buckeyes a chance to avenge their loss to No. 1 Oregon.

English ref Coote under investigation because of alleged discussions with fan about a yellow card
- AP
Suspended Premier League referee David Coote is the subject of another investigation by the Football Association following allegations that he discussed showing a yellow card with a fan before a match. British newspaper The Sun published the allegations and said Coote denies any wrongdoing. The Sun has claimed Coote discussed the prospect of booking a then-Leeds player, Ezgjan Alioski, with a supporter of the club the day before a game against West Bromwich Albion in the second-tier Championship in October 2019. The newspaper alleges that after Coote booked the player, he messaged the supporter back to say: “I hope you backed as discussed.” The FA says “these are very serious allegations." Coote is already being investigated by the FA and UEFA for other issues.

Brentford has Norgaard's red card overturned after sending off against Everton

Brentford has been successful in its appeal to get a red card overturned after midfielder Christian Norgaard was sent off against Everton in the Premier League this past weekend. The Denmark international was shown a straight red card following a VAR check after he lunged in attempting to poke the ball into the goal from close range. He made contact with the knee of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford instead. The red card for serious foul play came in the 41st minute at Goodison Park on Saturday. Brentford held on for a 0-0 draw. The Football Association says Brentford’s appeal against the decision was successful and that Norgaard is available.

The Gamecocks have won five straight after starting 3-3, including defeating three straight ranked opponents in Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Missouri.

No. 16 South Carolina at No. 12 Clemson playing for potential CFP spot
- By The Associated Press
There's a lot more at stake than bragging rights for the year when No. 16 South Carolina heads to No. 12 Clemson on Saturday. The two long-time rivals could be playing for a spot in the College Football Playoff. There's been plenty of college football chaos the past few weeks, maybe enough that the resumes of the Gamecocks and Tigers could stand out. Should Clemson win, it would finish 10-2 and likely move up a spot or two in the rankings. If South Carolina wins, it would be their fourth win over a ranked opponent in five games.

Henry and Barkley prepare for the earliest matchup ever between 1,300-yard backs
- By JOSH DUBOW - AP Pro Football Writer
Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry combined for 395 yards rushing on back-to-back nights at SoFi Stadium as the dynamic playmakers keep proving that investing in running backs can pay off in the right situation. Next, they will play on the same field at the same time when Barkley and Philadelphia take on Henry and Baltimore in the first matchup ever between two 1,300-yard runners in Week 13 or earlier. Before this year, no player had rushed for at least 1,300 yards and 10 TDs in the first 12 weeks of the season since Shaun Alexander in 2005 as teams moved away from bell-cow backs and diminished the importance of the position.

Stokes sat out the lucrative IPL this year to ease his workload following knee problems and was a notable absentee in the auction for the 2025 edition. Stokes is one of cricket’s biggest stars and could have commanded a huge fee. His contract was worth $2 million with Chennai Super Kings for last season but his priorities lie elsewhere now. Stokes tells the BBC that “looking after my body and looking after myself as much as I can is key."
